Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Administrative Assistant. This position is responsible for a variety of administrative and critical clerical duties; greets and assists students, faculty, staff and visitors. Serves as an ambassador for the office and is the first contact for visitors and callers. Resolves concerns and/or makes referrals as necessary or appropriate. Answers phones, opens, scans and distributes incoming mail; prepares letters, requisitions and other documents; orders supplies; transmits payment for services to the Cashier’s office. Provides assistance in the maintenance of student records; assists with registration, graduation, information dissemination and other activities in support of office functions; provides support for other areas as assigned. Work includes some evenings and weekends during special programs and peak periods. Employee may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, competitive benefits program.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and one year of previous administrative experience. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills required. Requirements include ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds, sit for extended periods and work nights and weekends as needed. Background and /or credit check may be required.
