Job Summary

The Marine Sciences Program at Savannah State University System of Georgia, located in Savannah, Georgia seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor. This non-tenured full time position serves as an Education Expert on the leadership team of the NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center. This person will be a Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Teacher Education and the College of Sciences and Technology. Responsibilities include chairing the NOAA LMRCSC Education Committee; assessing and training students supported by the cooperative center; integrating the work of the cooperative center with science education instruction; working with faculty colleagues to develop courses in the Educator Preparation; mentoring students seeking to become P-12 teachers; and participating in outreach activities that promote STEM education. May be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned Ed.D or Ph.D in a field of education related to teacher preparation and/or STEM education with expertise in science education and/or environmental literacy as well as in educational assessment. Applicants must have successfully completed a teacher preparation program leading to certification and must have three to five years of teaching experience in a P-12 setting. Knowledge of Georgia Professional Standards and Georgia Department of Education Standards is preferred. Background and/or credit check may be required.
