Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Financial Aid Processor. This position assists students and parents in completing required documents; processes incoming documents electronically, and assists staff in administering federal aid programs. Advises students about financial aid eligibility and application procedures; individualizes information to the particular needs and situation of the student. Collects and/or analyzes financial data on students to determine aid eligibility. Processes consortium agreements in Banner and Surfer; advises students on the consortium agreement process. Contacts students to clarify verification/ documentation questions or to request additional information. Assists the Verification Specialist to verify accuracy of documents and consistency of data; represents the department at special events; attends workshops and conferences requiring out-of- town travel. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or higher AND one year of experience at an institution of higher education focusing on financial aid and/or student counseling. Ability to disseminate financial aid information, educate staff and administration, and make referrals for students and staff over a wide range of subjects relating to the financial aid process. Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to perform four basic arithmetic operations. Must be able to read federal tax returns, wage statements, and determine eligible filing status of applicants and/or parents. Strong motivational skills to create a positive and engaging work environment with a focus on customer service; strong ability to take initiative and follow through to completion all assignments and projects in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and collaborate among staff and management while working independently also required. Background and/or credit check may be required.
